It can be really hard to know where to begin.
I see this question a lot in our 30+ Men’s Fitness community.
Lads genuinely don’t know where to start with working out.
5 minutes on Google just confuses them more as there’s so much conflicting information out there. Do you start with bodyweight? Do you join a gym and start with barbells or dumbbells? Can you buy a home gym from Amazon and use that?
The problem is, that’s a huge change in lifestyle.
I’ve helped thousands of lads train and I always start them out with bodyweight basic workouts that you can do from home.
You don’t need to spend a penny, your body offers enough resistance.
It’s the cornerstone of many of my online plans, and I’m going to show you a typical beginner level workout.
All you need is some floor space and 6 minutes.
Easy right?
3 x Bodyweight Circuit
30 seconds bodyweight squat
30 seconds plank
30 seconds lunges
30 seconds push ups
2 minutes of work, do this 3 times if you can.
You can follow along with this video where I break down the moves and give you some adjustments if you need them.
(This was filmed in 2012, long before the kids, can you tell?)
Try it lads and tell me how it went.
I bet it got your heart rate up and a sweat on?
You don’t need to buy loads of equipment or waste money on a gym membership!
If you’re ready to take it up a notch, then I recommend you get yourself a kettlebell. Start with a 12kg for snatches and cleans, and a 16kg for squats and swings.
Check out our range (and technique videos) on our kettlebells page.
